Lower Terrace Beautification Project

In 2018, dual grants were awarded to the Point SLO Lighthouse Keepers. The first came from San Luis Obispo County, and the second came from the Avila Beach Community Foundation. The project's goal is to rejuvenate the area known as the lower terrace at the Lighthouse.

An erosion control retaining wall was constructed, and the area filled in with compacted decomposed granite.

A deck was constructed in the corner of the terrace underneath the cypress tree. This is a favorite location for weddings, but the deck can also be used for live bands during concerts and events.

Next power lines and water pipes were trenched down to the terrace. The water will be used for irrigation in the fourth stage of the project. The power lines were connected to the deck.

In 2019 the fourth stage was completed. It saw the  planting of native species of plants alongside the lowest part of the hill, to aid in pleasing the eye and to further stop erosion.

The area is now used as a way for the Point SLO Lighthouse Keepers to raise funds for restoration. The summer concert series started in 2018 and will commence again in Summer 2019.

A Huge Thanks to The Avila Beach Community Foundation for funding and to Carmichael Environmental Services for their expert work on this project!
